Alps (Savoy)

Famous for their winter sports and picturesque chalets nestled into pine forests, are dominated by Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe. But the Savoy region is not only postcard-perfect and the rough terrain can experience extremes of blazing hot sun combined with snowfields that never melt.

Severity and patience are an integral part of the way of life in Savoy as expressed by the old proverb, “haste eats progress”. People who live near glaciers know a thing or two about the slow march of time…

Traditionally, the people of Savoy have been known for their tenacity and common sense, managing to exist with limited resources.

In the 19th century, brewers, drawing on these resources, used ice from frozen lakes to cool and store their beer. Now breweries are tapping into these same resources to brew beer using pure glacial water.

These beers pair wonderfully with the myriad of alpine cheeses that Savoy is known for!
